Happy Birthday Grandma M!

Josh's grandma is 83 today!  Do any of you have an 80 year old grandmother who goes to college, tap dances and is a play write?  I think it is okay to brag a little about her on her birthday.  She is truly an amazing mother, grandmother, wife and person.  We love you grandma!  Happy Birthday!

Happy Happy Birthday Kyker!

My little sister is growing up.  In this last year of her life she has sold a house, moved to a new state, had a baby, and bought a house all at the ripe old age of 25!  Good job on a great year Ky.  Love you!

Job cuts hit early 2009

I really hope that Obama is going to be able to make some good change.  So far January sucks.  Watching the news is scary enough with murders and wars...on top of that LAYOFFS.  That word freaks me out.  We have had so many friends and family members that have been hit by job cuts and a slow in all markets.  It is really upsetting.

On a website called www.layoffblog.com it stated that:

According to CNNMoney: “The job market continued to take a beating Tuesday, as six companies across several industries announced more than 11,500 job cuts Tuesday.

The huge number of job cuts pales only in comparison to Monday’s statistics: seven companies issued job cut announcements totaling more than 71,400 layoffs.

In January alone, companies have announced more 211,500 job cuts.”

  • U.S. companies have announced 519,895 job cuts since November 1, 2008.
  • The U.S. jobless rate reached 7.2 percent in December, the highest level in almost 16 years.

The First Dentist Visit

Since Laney will be THREE YEARS OLD next Tuesday, her time has come.  She is now old enough to go to the dentist.  Yesterday was her very first appointment, and she did awesome!
She had a really nice hygienist, and sat still the whole time.  I don't even think it was because WALL-E was playing on a TV in front of her station either.  :)  I like to think she was just being a good girl and her terrible two's are coming to an end!

Yes I know - no shoes.  FYI-Laney takes her shoes off everywhere we go.  Every day when we take Kadie to school AND when we pick her up I give a mini-lecture about it because we are only 3 minutes from school.  When we get there her shoes are always on the floor.

I was not about to make her put her shoes back on since she was being so good.
Bringing her "bubby" helped a lot.

The timing was just right.  They cleaned both the girls teeth and did X-rays on Kadie in 30 minutes.  No cavities for either girl...phew!  I was extremely thankful it was time to leave when Laney started to take off her pants because she had to go "pee pee's".
No shoes, no pants, no service right?

Oh.  We are potty training right now too.

"A-bread-a-la-ducks"!

One word.  "A-bread-a-la-ducks"!  Means; "Let's go feed bread to the ducks!" in Laney language.  And yes, her face is squished up just like that when she says it.  :)

Since last week was crazy, and the girls missed their Daddy...we had to unwind and have some fun on Saturday.  We always have to play hard on the weekends because it is OUR time together.  So we treated the girls to none other than McDonald's and went to a nearby shopping center called Blackhawk and fed the ducks.

Anti-California - Anti-80 hours

Last week was an 80 hour work week.  Josh says 70, but I count commute time too since that adds to my 80 hour work week. :(  The girls hardly saw him at all, and me...other than feeling a lump next to me in the bed, Tuesday through Friday Josh might as well have been out of town.  I didn't see him at all!  Yes, it sucks big time.

I even had a tantrum day.  An anti-California day you might call it.  Goes like this...

Leisa quickly dials Josh's cell phone number, tapping her fingers on the counter while it rings.
Josh: "Hey babe."
Leisa: "Why do we live here?" (huffy).
Josh: "Huh?"
Leisa: "Why do we live in California...San Ramon...HERE"?
Josh: "Oh, can we talk about this later, I have a lot to do right..."
Leisa: "Seriously.  You could transfer anywhere you want, we want!  Why California?  Do you realize we live in the poorest state in the country?  California is so in debt!"
Josh: "I promise we will talk about it later, but I have to go now.  Sorry your having a bad day."

We said our goodbyes, and of course I was still worked up for a while.  I am glad Josh is patient with me when I have my fits like that day.

Last week it was cold and rainy, which made things boring, and tense being stuck inside all day.
This week is sunny, and so far...at 9:55 p.m. on Tuesday night Josh has worked 29 hours, and just called to say he would be home around 12:30.  So 32 hours in two days...safe to say another 80 hour week.

American Idol

Kadie LOVES American Idol.  To say the very least.  She begs me to let her stay up to watch it but it gets over around 10:00 p.m.  So I had to get smart and just tell her the day after it is on and let her watch the recording or we are late for school on Wonderful Wednesdays (early morning instead of afternoon kindergarten).

To sum it up, she laughs at the silly people and sings along with the ones that she likes.  She also tells me within a few seconds if she thinks they will get a golden ticket or not.  She has now started to tell me about other people who would succeed on American Idol.

In church a few weeks ago, there was a man singing.  He was good but not great, and half way through his song she leaned over to me and whispered, "mom, I sing way better than this guy".  And then just turned back and watched him finish while I tried not to crack up.

Today at church, a woman sang a song.  She had a very distinctive different voice that was actually really cool to listen to.  When Kadie leaned toward me I thought uh oh...what is she going to say.  But Kadie agreed and told me she would "totally" get a golden ticket.  She says totally really often now too.  I wonder where she gets that one from???
